Veris SSN Validation Services Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I know which of your services would best address my
company's needs?
A: This web site has an explanatory page for each of our services
which can be accessed either by clicking on the headings listed on
the left bar on this screen or the home page. But we'll try to give
you a general idea of what these titles mean in the following paragraphs.
You may click on the titles as they appear below to link directly
to the page that further explains each service.
All of our services are available on-line over the Internet. If
you would like to check the validity of social security numbers at
your site, one-at-a-time, as one would do when opening accounts, our Interactive,
One-at-a-Time Validation Service might work best for you. A number
of our customers prefer the Batch Processing Service at
their site for checking batches of SSN files from credit applications,
personnel or benefit recipient databases, etc. to identify invalid
numbers and numbers that have been retired.
Both the interactive and batch processing services are available for
use on your Network or as a
Software
Developer's Kit for customers wishing to incorporate our software
into theirs. If you have batches of SSNs to check only occasionally,
it may be more cost-effective for you to send your files to our processing
center. We call this service Veris by Mail. Another
option that many of our clients use is to link their application directly
to our server using XML queries..
All of the Veris services described thus far use information obtained
from a number of sources, including the United States Social Security
Administration, to determine which SSNs are likely to have been assigned,
where and when they were assigned, and if the person to whom each was
assigned has since been reported as deceased. They report indicators
of fraud and/or error, but do not associate an SSN with a name and
so do not tell you if an SSN actually belongs to the person presenting
it. If you need to have the identifying information (name and address)
associated with a number or batch of numbers, our SSN-ID Services would
better suit your needs.
The
SSN-ID for Retired SSNs Is available
over the Internet or by way of software for use at your site to obtain
the name and other identifying information associated with any SSN
that has been "retired" (the person assigned to that number has been
reported deceased). In addition to the Veris software, SSN-ID for Retired
SSNs includes the retired numbers database (updated weekly) and a search
engine to access the database. A mail-in option for this service is
also available.
SSN-ID for Active SSNs is designed for our
customers to add name and address information for SSNs that are still
actively in use, answering the question, "who's number is it?" SSN-ID
for Active SSNs is available in combination with other Veris services
or may be purchased separately. An on-line or mail-in version of this
service is available.
